My 1-Year Experience with the Apple FineWoven Case

Since getting my iPhone 15 Pro in September 2023, I’ve been using the black FineWoven case every day.

I remember being in Los Angeles with my family at the time. One day, we visited a really nice place called Farmers Market. It was a fun experience with great stores and restaurants, but what I was looking forward to the most was, of course, visiting the Apple Store. You see, in Gothenburg, Sweden, where I live, we don’t have a proper Apple Store—just certified resellers that look and feel somewhat like the real thing, but aren’t quite the same. So, whenever I travel, visiting an Apple Store is something I always want to experience.

I knew I was on the hunt for a case, and this would be my first one from Apple. I’d just gotten my shiny new iPhone 15 Pro a few days earlier and wanted to make sure it stayed protected. So, there I was, standing in the corner of the store, torn between getting a silicone case or the new FineWoven option. After a nice lunch break to think it over, I returned to the store and decided on the black FineWoven case, which I thought would complement the black titanium finish of my iPhone perfectly. I also picked up a pink silicone case for my mom, which she absolutely loved.

At first, I was a bit skeptical. While I thought the FineWoven case looked great, I’d seen some bad reviews online about it scratching easily, which made me hesitate. But I went for it anyway. Personally, I really liked how it felt in hand—it was perfect for sliding into my pocket and didn’t attract dust like silicone cases tend to do.

Over time, I’ve grown to like it even more. While it’s not leather, the material has really grown on me, and I’ve noticed it has developed a nice patina, similar to leather as it breaks in. The corners, which felt a bit harsh at first, have softened up nicely with use.

The worry about scratching and it becoming ugly over time? Not an issue for me. In fact, the opposite—it has held up surprisingly well after a year of heavy use, through all kinds of weather. I only have one or two scuffs, which is impressive considering how many times I’ve dropped it. The only noticeable sign of wear is the MagSafe ring, which is slightly visible after using a MagSafe charger since day one. But this isn’t unique to FineWoven; most cases seem to have this issue, and honestly, it doesn’t bother me much. (See images below)

Funny enough, I clean the case almost weekly with dish soap and hot water, and every time, it looks almost brand new. This has really surprised me, considering all the negative reviews about its fragility.

The case still feels solid, and the aluminum buttons are just as tactile as they were when it was new. I love how easily it slides into my pockets, and I feel confident holding it.

Note that I haven’t cleaned it in a while, so it looks a bit worn down. But this also shows what it looks like if you don’t clean it regularly.
